Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia (volume increase in the male breast) is divided into true and
false cases. True Gynecomastia is characterised by an increase in the male
mammary gland, following illness or the taking of drugs.; False Gynecomastia,
or pseudo fat gynecomastia, is represented by an abnormal accumulation of
adipose tissue at the mammary region. This is easily encountered in
overweight or frankly obese patients. Generally asymptomatic. Treatment is
exclusively surgical:
- removal of the gland in the case of true gynecomastia
- liposuction or subcutaneous defatting in the case of false gynecomastia
In the presence of cutaneous laxity (post slimming) it is useful to
associate remodelling of the mammary region (Mastoplasty) with the
liposuction.
